Job Title: Senior Automation Engineer

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Automation Engineer with expertise in innovative robotics systems to join our dynamic team in the connected device technology sector. This role involves resolving complex system-level issues in both hardware and software, developing advanced automation solutions, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our automated systems. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, a background in computer science, engineering, or a related field, and proven relevant experience.

What you’ll do:

  • You will be a team contributor responsible for supporting the Apkudo equipment installations worldwide as needed, handling the equipment Bring-up, Calibration, Customer Alignment, and acceptance to SOW requirements.
  • Subject matter expert “SME” for all Apkudo Equipment / Systems being deployed and supported in the field and must be able to install, troubleshoot & validate the equipment performance.
  • Cosmetic inspection performance validation and new model tuning during new implementation projects.
  • Functional Failure Validation for all test equipment & test software during new implementations
  • As an SME, you will be required to constantly evaluate the performance of the equipment in the field and determine the top issues that engineering needs to work on to improve overall performance.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the control systems to ensure they operate effectively. This may involve performing maintenance, diagnosing and fixing problems with the control system, as well as updating software and hardware as needed.
  • Work with innovative Robotics systems, troubleshooting system-level issues, both Hardware and Software. Monitor control systems using software and programming languages like Python or ladder logic
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including system design, installation, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to the control system's design, programming, testing, and maintenance. This includes writing user manuals, system specifications, and test reports.
  • Support S1 efforts for problem resolution and also evaluate the root cause for the S1 incident to drive preventative measures or lower-level support training & documentation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with Linux system configuration issues and device drivers. Support Windows and Linux servers on-premise.
  • Update and troubleshoot human-machine interfaces (HMIs) to provide systems support specialists with a clear understanding of system performance.
  • Provide technical support to end-users, including training and instruction on system use.
  • Stay current with industry developments and advancements in control system technology, including hardware and software upgrades.
  • Apply system-level configuration changes in support of the introduction of new production.
  • Expected to work both onsite and on-call.
  • Deploy and/or maintain infrastructure using tools such as Ansible, Dell OpenManage, and Git.
  • Respond and resolve issues quickly to minimize downtime, ensuring operations run smoothly.
  • Provide detailed descriptions of the state of the system and provide insight as to the cause of the issue and preventive measures.
  • Capture supporting data, including system logs, images, and any reproduction steps necessary to investigate issues as needed by other Apkudo teams
  • Plan and perform system maintenance activities including parts planning and replacement.
  • Experience partnering with vendors and customers to solve problems and build solutions.
  • Ability to work with remote people effectively in an onsite capacity by troubleshooting issues without a clear description of the problem.
  • Comfortable working as part of a distributed team and communicating with both technical and non-technical users.
  • Willingness to work on-call and a rotating schedule, including responding to after-hour emergencies.
  • Software Integration and testing for PLC/ Application updates
  • Other duties as required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in automation engineering, particularly in system-level troubleshooting and innovation.
  • Strong technical skills in robotics systems and automation technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a systematic approach to diagnosing and resolving issues.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of conveying technical information clearly to various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in programming languages and tools relevant to automation and robotics.
  • In-depth understanding of hardware and software integration.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
